BROADBENT, John (1795-1860)

Born about March 1795 and baptised 26 April 1795 at Bolton, Lancashire, England, the son of James Broadbent and his wife Martha, nee Wood. He married on 22 May 1817 at Bradford, Yorkshire, England, to Maria Elliot Braithwaite. Partner with his father and brother Samuel at the Northbrook Vitriol Works, Bradford, till the death of his father in 1823 and then with his brother to c1838. Partner with James Hughes at the Shuttleworth Paper Mill, Lancashire from c1836 till their bankruptcy in 1848. Died on 6 June 1860 at the residence of his son, Robert Dickson Broadbent, 9 St. Andrew's Street, Blackburn, Lancashire, England. Buried at Blackburn, Lancashire, England.

HUGHES, James (1798-1877)

Born on 17 August 1798 at Little Lever, Lancashire, England, and baptised on 16 September 1798 at St. Matthew's Church of England, Little Lever, Lancashire, the son of Daniel Hughes, paper maker, and his wife Martha, nee Walker. He married on 19 October 1823 at the Bolton Parish Church, Lancashire, to Alice Roiley, daughter of James Roiley. Was at the Creams Paper Mill, Little from c1816 to 1834. Soon afterwards he entered into partnership with John Broadbent at the Shuttleworth Paper Mill, Lancashire till their bankruptcy in 1848. Later worked as a paper merchant in Manchester. Died on 11 October 1877 at the Union Workhouse, Salford, Lancashire. Buried on 15 October 1877 at St. Matthew's Church, Little Lever, Lancashire, England.

INGHAM, Harold (c1848-1915)

Born c1848, the son of James Broadbent Ingham and his wife Jane, nee Muff. Carried on the Shuttleworth Paper Mill for about 15 years after the death of his father in 1888. Died in 1915. Buried 1915 at Park Congregational Chapel, Shuttleworth, Lancashire, England.

INGHAM, James Broadbent (c1815-1888)

Born c1815 and baptised on 6 April 1815 at Bradford, Yorkshire, England, the son of Timothy James Ingham and his wife Rachel, nee Broadbent. In business with his brother Samuel and Henry Brown as drapers at Bradford, Yorkshire until the partnership was dissolved in May 1839. He married on 2 April 1841 at Mosley Chapel, Manchester, Lancashire, England, to Jane Muff, the daughter of William Muff. Partner with Joseph Hughes and Joseph Barnes at the White Hall Paper Mill, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire from c1838 to c1848. He was then in partnership with his brother, Samuel Broadbent Ingham at the Shuttleworth Paper Mill, Lancashire from c1848. About 1857 he built the Holcombe Paper Mill at Ramsbottom (Excise No. 73) which traded under the name of J. B. Ingham & Son. This mill was sold in 1872. Died on 21 March 1888 at 5 Bridge Grove, Southport, Lancashire, England. Buried on 24 March 1888 at Park Chapel, Walmersley, Lancashire, England.

INGHAM, Samuel Broadbent (c1814-1891)

Born c1814 and baptised on 15 April 1814 at Bradford, Yorkshire, England, the son of Timothy James Ingham and his wife Rachel, nee Broadbent. In business with his brother James and Henry Brown as drapers at Bradford, Yorkshire until the partnership was dissolved in May 1839. He married in 1840 at Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, England, to Edith Johnson Barlow, daughter of James Barlow and his wife Ann, nee Guest. He was in partnership with his brother, James Broadbent Ingham at the Shuttleworth Paper Mill, Lancashire from c1848. Died on 24 January 1891 at Bournemouth, Dorset, England.
